Abstract

The MRC contribution (and that of DHSC UK total €3.5m Total funding €10m ) supports the UK participants in the awarded studies. Following the novel Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) outbreak in December 2019, there has been an unprecedented rapid spread across more than 181 countries, with more than 1 million confirmed cases globally as of 3 April 2020. In the light of rising numbers of cases being reported from affected countries, including several sub-Saharan African countries, the EDCTP Association agreed to activate the emergency funding mechanism to support Research & Innovation Actions (RIAs) as part of the European response to the COVID-19 emergency.
