Abstract

As a result of the covid-19 measures, many lawsuits have been canceled. The judiciary has tried to deal with the most urgent cases, usually by holding digital hearings or by hearing litigants from a distance. This has led to significant innovations, particularly in digital communication, from which lessons may be learned for the future. There is no complete picture of the measures taken and their impact on the institution of the judiciary and, in particular, on vulnerable litigants. This research, which is being conducted jointly by the universities of Leiden, Utrecht and Nijmegen, will map out the problems with which the judiciary faced during the corona crisis.
