Abstract

Research has shown that the first three years of primary school are essential in establishing a solid foundation for the long-term well-being, academic and social outcomes of students. Schools around the world closed during the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020, which likely led to a deterioration in children's mental well-being due to family stress and anxiety over the situation. Dr Jon Quach, winner of an AXA Research Fund Award at the University of Melbourne, focuses his research on the modifiable determinants of inequalities in child development and mental health. In particular, he is investigating whether mindfulness interventions in schools can lead to better long-term outcomes for students.
