Abstract
The main route of transmission for SARS-CoV-2 is the uptake of virus-carrying aerosol via mouth or nose. Viral spread and infection could be optimally prevented by intercepting and eliminating the pathogen through the action of virus-specific IgA at the portal of entry into the body. This project proposes an unorthodox mucosal vaccination approach that exploits the IgA feedback sampling mechanism of the mucosal immune system to induce secretion of SARS-CoV-2-specific IgA on the mucosal surfaces in order to prevent virus incorporation and disease.
