Abstract
A team of biochemists and virologists at the university hospital is investigating how the SARS-CoV-2 virus infects cells. The scientists want to find out which proteins in the human cell the virus needs in order to multiply in the cells. The two previously known proteins ACE2 and TMPRSS2 are apparently insufficient for viruses to penetrate cells and replicate there. This goes hand in hand with the search for human genes that are responsible for resistance to viral infection. In this way, the researchers want to find starting points for drug treatment of COVID-19.
