Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic has affected and transformed the physical and psycho-social condition of the dwelling, adding new and different functions and needs, and people's expectations from the dwelling have changed. In the project, these changes were determined by questioning, and in line with these determinations, the possibilities of using the existing housing stock and design strategies for the new houses to be built were developed. The findings reached with this project, which aims to determine the change experienced with the COVID-19 pandemic by questioning, to develop design strategies for the new houses to be built and the possibilities of use of the existing housing stock based on these determinations; reflections of physical and psycho-social changes on the house, new spatial arrangements created by working from home/remote and education, spatial requirements created by fitting social life into the home, reflections of physical and psychological effects on the space created by being alone at home for a long time or with the household, changing hygiene Spatial measures and arrangements taken in houses depending on the concept of the concept, how houses are defined as a result of the changes and how the thoughts about houses change are presented under the headings. Based on the results of the research, the requirements and expectations for existing and new houses to be built for the COVID-19 process and after, have been translated into practice with design strategies. When we look at the focus of design strategies, it is understood that there is a need to expand the scope of user interventions at the level of furniture and decoration in the house. In this context, design strategies have been developed in the project that will expand the scope of user interventions in residential spaces and furniture. Within the scope of the project, it is aimed to develop an understanding of housing where the user can intervene in his home, create alternatives for his own solution, new functions can be added with the change in living possibilities, interior comfort conditions such as lighting and acoustics are realized, social interaction is provided inside and outside the family, and indoor-outdoor communication is allowed. necessity and recommendations for this have been reached. The research showed that the participants wanted to continue their spatial arrangements due to the uncertainty of the pandemic processes and they felt obliged to take action for the future in order to adapt to the situations arising due to the pandemic. It is suggested as the subject of future studies that the design strategies revealed as a result of the project should be implemented in existing and new houses and experienced by the user.
