Abstract
Severe respiratory failure is the main complication associated with SARS-CoV2 infection. Although Chinese series have described some clinical and laboratory characteristics associated with a worse prognosis, little is known about the epidemiological profile of these patients in Brazil. The comorbidity profile may be associated with the development of more severe forms of the disease; however, this type of association was made in populations with a socioeconomic, demographic and racial profile different from the Brazilian profile. Furthermore, it is characteristic of a tertiary/quaternary hospital to concentrate more serious cases, which allows access to a very representative subgroup of this population. The purpose of this study is to describe the clinical characteristics, ventilatory parameters and outcomes of a population of patients who needed ventilatory support during hospitalization in the intensive care units of Hospital das Clínicas da FMUSP
