Abstract

People who inject drugs (PWID) are likely to find it difficult to self-isolate and may be in contact with other high-risk individuals, making transmission of COVID-19 extremely likely. This group are at high risk for experiencing drug related illnesses which may be exacerbated by COVID-19. By conducting qualitative interviews with people who inject drugs, we are seeking to understand the effects of recent changes, and the challenges they pose. The knowledge generated will lead to a better understanding of the needs of PWID during the pandemic to improve current support provision and reduce the impact of COVID-19 on this group.
