Abstract
Respiratory infections are sometimes poorly recognized in elderly people in nursing homes, because the symptoms are often different from the typical symptoms of a respiratory infection. Therefore, measuring signs of a respiratory infection, such as increased heart rate at rest, increased breathing and reduced exercise, could help in timely recognition of respiratory infections. This, together with knowledge about the pathogen, may lead to better control of outbreaks in nursing homes in the future.
