Abstract
An outbreak of monkeypox virus (MPV) has been observed worldwide since May 2022. Unlike previous outbreaks, the chain of transmission appears to be continuing among people, especially among men who have sex with men (MSM). One hypothesis for this ongoing transmission is that, contrary to previous assumptions, asymptomatic carriers of the virus exist. These could be the driving force behind these transmission chains. The University of Zurich therefore wants to study asymptomatic MSM who are at risk of MPV infection. The study results can help improve the strategy for containing the virus: With the detection of asymptomatic carriers, testing recommendations can be adjusted.
