Abstract

During the Covid-19 pandemic, it was necessary to closely monitor the development and spread of circulating SARS-CoV-2 variants. Virus variants could influence the epidemiological situation, for example by being more contagious, causing more severe disease, evading immunity after infection or vaccination, or affecting the effectiveness of therapies. This subsidy enabled geographically and demographically representative genome sequencing of 2000 samples per week. This project was coordinated by the National Reference Center for Emerging Viral Infections (NAVI/CRIVE) at HUG. This monitoring made it possible to better assess the development of the pandemic and also served as a basis for decisions for targeted adaptation of measures.
