Abstract

In response to the National Emergency related to the COVID-19 pandemic and the need to prioritize studies to support the Acceleration of COVID-19 Therapeutic Interventions and Vaccines (ACTIV), the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Disease (NIAID) will establish a Nonhuman Primate Studies Coordination Center (NHP CC) to aid in the distribution, administration, and coordination of COVID Nonhuman Primate (NHP) studies across the seven National Primate Resource Centers (NPRCs). This network of NPRCs will directly support three of the four fast-track focus areas in ACTIV. 1. Standardize and share preclinical evaluation methods in an open forum that allows for comparison and validation. 2. Prioritize and accelerate clinical evaluation of therapeutic candidates with near-term potential. 3. Advance vaccine development. The NHP CC shall coordinate activities at each Nonhuman Primate COVID Therapeutics and Vaccine Evaluation Unit (NHP CoTVEU) and establish lines of communications among all parties.
