Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic is the most important health challenge to the US population within a century. Most epidemiological data have focused on cases that resulted in severe respiratory disease seen predominantly in adults. Inadequate information regarding the infection burden in children is available, especially in the context of households that are prospectively monitored with repetitive testing. This information is critical to determine the silent and symptomatic infection rate in children. The NIAID-supported Human Epidemiology and Response to SARS- CoV-2 (HEROS) survey study is designed to fill this gap.
