Abstract
PROJECT SUMMARY The 5th Workshop on Viral Dynamics is the single most important conference for the mathematical modeling of viral infections, immune responses, vaccines and antiviral therapies. The 2021 conference will continue this tradition of excellence and cover a wide array of topics including HIV, hepatitis viruses, herpesviruses, influenza, vaccination, and immunity. This year's workshop will also include a considerable focus on SARS-CoV-2 as an area of new and intense interest, and in particular will have sessions on modeling vaccine responses. The program will include twelve blocks of presentations, with each presentation block comprising four oral presentations (each 20 minutes in duration), followed by 10 minutes of interactive discussion. The program will also include concurrent poster sessions during the lunch breaks, during which attendees can view and discuss posters. The poster session will be facilitated by the highly interactive Sococo virtual conference platform, in which participants can select a particular poster to view and then initiate a discussion with the presenter. A main objective of our conference is to strengthen the training pipeline by engaging early-career trainees and in particular under-represented minorities in the field of viral dynamics modeling. Participation of trainees in the conference will be facilitated in part by the trainee stipend program funded by this R13 conference grant, which will support 10 early-career researchers from across the globe in attending and participating in the workshop.
