Abstract
Our team envisions a world in which dengue and other diseases transmitted by Aedes aegypti are ultimately eliminated. We believe the path to realizing this vision will require a large-scale democratization of a new generation of safe, effective, and targeted Aedes aegypti control technologies, ultimately allowing governments and communities alike to deploy simple, cost-effective solutions in a range of settings where it matters the most. More than half of the world's population live in areas where the Aedes aegypti mosquito is present. For the majority, a new generation of effective, targeted and safe vector control tools are far out of reach financially and operationally, thereby limiting the potential that these novel technologies can play. At the same time, disease transmission from Aedes aegypti continues to rise as it expands both its geographical range and its level of resistance to insecticides. This critical project will help Oxitec finalize close to 10 years of investment and R&D and transform its powerful technology into a proven, affordable, scalable, accessible, and integrated solution ideal for use by a range of end-users in low-resource settings, thereby furthering enlisting a broader range of stakeholders in our collective efforts on the path to our vision.
