Abstract
The scope of this project is to contribute to the intercultural exchange of two Mediterranean localities by inviting people of different nationalities and languages to Naxxar to participate in common activities. Through this project we aim to reinforce mutual understanding and tolerance and give participants the opportunity to broaden their perspective. This project will seek to raise awareness on the richness of the cultural and linguistic environment between the two towns, whilst also reflecting on the impact the pandemic left on both communities. We feel there is lack of appreciation of culture by the general public. This discourages many from developing the potential further. We need to motivate our people further to continue to develop their talents. We also need to equip people with the necessary knowledge to encourage the appreciation and preservation of the European cultural heritage. In this regard, we intend to organise workshops and group discussions to identify both similar experiences as well as differences between the two localities, as well as hold an exhibition fair of guest craftsmen/artists from Canicattì and Naxxar. Moreover, the COVID-19 pandemic negatively impacted the social and economic environments of both towns. Residents of both towns were all impacted differently as the need to prevent the spread of the virus led to the imposition of strong restrictions on individual and collective freedom. Particularly, it meant a blow to cultural organisations and the organisation of cultural events locally. In this regard, this project will undertake a series of discussions and debates revolving around the pandemic, and how it affected one's lives. The project objectives are as follows: • To promote and celebrate the richness of cultural heritage • To discuss and debate how the Covid-19 pandemic affected citizens working in agriculture, production, culture and tradition • To build the foundations for a long-term cooperation
