Abstract

The primary issue for this project is Active Aging and how to achieve healthier and happier living as we grow older. Active ageing is defined as allowing people to remain independent and achieve their potential regardless of age. Society perceives ageing as a social marker for assigning responsibilities such as grandparental duties and simultaneously taking away other responsibilities such as the need to work and earn a living. In this regard, we seek to undertake this Town Twinning project as a means to promote and strengthen active ageing in our communities, by targeting both the older and younger generation specifically, and developing a series of activities were such an intergenerational group can work together and learn from each other, building mutual understanding and tolerance. Msida residents will travel to Buscemi, Sicily as part of this town twinning project. Participants need to experience that the common and different cultural heritage constitute the foundation for a common future. The two cities are linked through culture, gastronomy and tradition. In discussing the rich cultural and linguistic environment in Europe, we will look at the cultures and traditions in our two towns. Never has the importance of a cohesive, welcoming community built on mutual respect never been more clearly evident than during this pandemic. Discussions on COVID are essential in that; Msida is Urban while Buscemi is rural, and it is this sharp contrast That is in exploring how these diverse environments dealt with the situation and if in the emergent picture there are lessons that each side could learn from. The project objectives are as follows: • To promote and discuss the rich cultural heritage and traditions of Msida and Buscemi • To discuss and debate how the Covid-19 pandemic affected the older generation in Msida and Buscemi • To build the foundations for a long-term cooperation
