Abstract

EAWAG analyzes the wastewater from 6 treatment plants across Switzerland daily for the presence of SARS-CoV-2 RNA. The goal is to use this data to estimate the spread of SARS-CoV-2 in the Swiss population, in addition to determining the case numbers. Furthermore, experiences with wastewater analysis are intended to be collected, which can be used in the establishment of a national monitoring system. This includes, for example, an assessment of how well wastewater analyses can estimate the course of the pandemic at low case numbers or which criteria should be considered when selecting treatment plants for monitoring.
