Abstract

Surveillance of hospitalized COVID-19 cases has been conducted in Switzerland since the start of the pandemic, based on the system used for monitoring severe influenza cases. The aim of this surveillance is to gain insights into the course of hospitalization. It identifies patient characteristics and helps gather information on risk groups, enabling the early implementation of targeted interventions and the appropriate adjustment of healthcare measures. The surveillance system also tracks hospitalized influenza cases, revealing how the pandemic-and the measures taken in response to it-affect seasonal influenza.
