Abstract

In this project, we are investigating the impact of Covid-19 on energy consumption and emissions in the transport sector in Switzerland. We are focusing on the short-term effects using an existing panel for which we have been recording individual journeys since September 2019, thus providing a good before-and-after comparison. To examine the long-term effects, we are conducting a survey with a separate sample, asking about the choice of mobility tools (car, public transport pass) as a function of long-term infection rates and the possibility of working from home. Adjustments to mobility tools in various future scenarios will then be used to calculate the long-term changes in energy consumption and emissions from transport.
