Abstract
Professional identity formation (PIF) is the process through which individuals become doctors as they go through medical training. PIF is vitally important in medical education as it involves the development of professional values, actions, and aspirations that align with the public trust. The current COVID-19 pandemic presents a seminal moment of crisis that will undoubtedly influence the PIF of this generation of physicians. Through online group interviews and qualitative data analysis, the investigators' study seeks to better understand how a crisis such as the COVID-19 pandemic influences the PIF of internal medicine residents across Ontario. Understanding how residents make sense of their experiences during the pandemic can help mentors and residency programs to better support trainees in moments of crisis.
