Abstract

Fatigue, cognitive problems, post-exertional malaise (PEM) and postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS) are common disabling complaints after a COVID-19 infection. The pathophysiology (mechanisms leading to disruption) of post-COVID is largely unknown and there is no established biomedical treatment. A promising candidate intervention is treatment with the selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) fluvoxamine, which may reduce post-COVID complaints through a regulating effect on the (neuro) immune system, the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal gland (HPA) and the tryptophan system.
