Abstract

This proposal aims to identify the main bird species that serve as reservoirs for West Nile virus (WNV) and Usutu virus (USUV), both transmitted by mosquitoes and spread across Europe. By understanding how these bird species contribute to the spread of these viruses, the research will improve our ability to predict and control outbreaks. The findings will inform targeted surveillance and control measures, ultimately reducing the risk of infections in humans and animals and improving our understanding of the ecological dynamics of these zoonotic pathogens.
