Abstract

During the COVID-19 pandemic, it turned out that healthcare providers report relatively few suspicions of side effects, while valuable information is often recorded in electronic patient records (EPDs). This creates knowledge gaps in safety and can delay the detection of new or rare side effects. In a recent ZonMw project, the EHR-AE search method was developed in which Electronic Patient Records (EPDs) are used in addition to spontaneous reports to generate knowledge about the safety profile of vaccines. This approach has led to faster and better signal detection. This implementation project is about implementing this method, so that this approach can structurally contribute to the safety of medicine use, also in the event of future pandemics.
