Abstract

AREBO aims to develop and strenghten the diagnostic capacities for BDBV in INRB central laboratories in Kinshasa and decentralised laboratories by implementing open PCR systems and rapidly deployable molecular assays for case identification. A reference PCR assay specific to BDBV will be developed for case confirmation in central laboratories, and validated on a sample panel available at INRB which has been confirmed by sequencing. Besides, as soon as commercial point-of-care molecular tests, such as GeneXpert or equivalent, specific to BDBV or pan-filovirus, will be available, these tests will be evaluated on the same reference panel to determine their respective sensitivity and specificity. Serological tests developed as part of this project will enable investigation of Ebola virus spread by detecting IgM and IgG specific to different Ebola viruses, including BDBV.
